The official said that the application submitted (by Saxena) said that the membership of Abdullah Azam Khan has expired under the Representation of the People Act, on the basis that his name should be removed from the voter list.
It is noteworthy that the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly on Wednesday disqualified Mohammad Abdullah Azam Khan from the membership of the House. A senior official of the state assembly said here on Wednesday, “Abdullah Azam Khan has been disqualified from the membership of the assembly after a Moradabad court recently sentenced him to two years in a 15-year-old case.” His seat has been declared vacant since February 13.
This is the second time that Abdullah Azam has been disqualified. He was disqualified in 2020 after the Allahabad High Court nullified his election to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly. His previous disqualification was effective from December 16, 2019. However, he was re-elected in the 2022 assembly elections. Abdullah, son of senior SP leader Azam Khan, represented Swar region of Rampur district in the assembly.
