Chhath Mahaparva begins on Kartik Shukla Chaturdashi. After bathing on this day, fasting women take pure and sattvik food, which is called Nahay-Khay. According to the belief, the food of pumpkin and rice is taken on this day. Kharna has to be done on the next day i.e. Kartik Shukla Panchami Tithi. On this day, Prasad is prepared for Chhathi Maiya and Sun God. Along with this, Arghya is offered to the setting sun on the third day of Chhath festival i.e. on the evening of Arghya. At the same time, Arghya is offered to the rising sun on the last day of Chhath festival. In Chhath festival, from bathing and eating till the last day to offer Arghya to the rising sun, the fast is observed with full devotion. During this, full care of sattvikta is taken. Apart from this, purity is also strictly followed in Chhath Mahaparva.
