Court sends notice to Assembly Speaker regarding resignation of Congress MLAs loyal to Ashok Gehlot

At present, there is a tussle between Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot.

Jaipur:

A division bench of the Rajasthan High Court on Tuesday issued a notice to the Assembly Speaker on a petition filed by Deputy Leader of the Opposition Rajendra Rathod in the MLAs’ resignation case. Rathore had last week filed a PIL seeking a direction to the High Court on the resignations tendered by 90 MLAs of the ruling Congress party to the Speaker.

Arguing in the court today, Rathore said that this is a matter of good governance and since the Speaker is stuck on the issue for the last 90 days and no decision has been taken so far, it is necessary for the court to intervene in the matter.

A division bench of Justice MM Srivastava and Justice Vinod Kumar Bahrwani issued a notice to the Speaker of the Assembly.

Significantly, on September 25, more than 90 Congress MLAs submitted their resignations to Assembly Speaker CP Joshi, protesting the Legislature Party meeting called to decide the name of Gehlot’s successor as Chief Minister. Ashok Gehlot was at the forefront of the nomination for the post of National President of Congress.

A delegation of BJP leaders led by Leader of Opposition Gulab Chand Kataria also met the Speaker on October 18 in the matter and requested him to accept the resignations of Congress MLAs including ministers.
