Mumbai :

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Saturday that the Eknath Shinde-BJP government was legitimate and would remain in power. This comment of Fadnavis is being seen as a sarcasm on the Shiv Sena faction led by Uddhav Thackeray which has predicted its downfall. Fadnavis said that the government that came to power in June 2022 was formed as per constitutional norms and rules.

Addressing the state BJP executive in Nashik, Fadnavis said in the context of the disqualification petition filed by the Shiv Sena (UBT) faction against 16 MLAs of the Eknath Shinde-led group, that he was confident the Supreme Court would rule in “our” favour.

Without naming the Uddhav Thackeray faction, the BJP leader rubbished criticism that the government was illegitimate and several members (of the Balasahebchi Shiv Sena led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde) would be disqualified (by the apex court).

Fadnavis said, “This message is being spread so that the remaining 10-15 MLAs (in the Thackeray-led Shiv Sena camp) do not defect. Whatever we have done has been done according to the rules and following the constitution. Our government is not ‘traitor’, but ‘Khuddar'”

Fadnavis said the Shinde-led government would not only complete its term but would also be re-elected with a huge majority (in the 2024 assembly polls).

In particular, Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders Aditya Thackeray and Sanjay Raut have been saying that the state government will not last long.
