Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s flight could not land at Agartala’s Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport on Wednesday night due to dense fog and low visibility. His flight was diverted to Guwahati. ATC sources said that the aircraft was diverted to Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati, where it was successfully landed. Union Home Minister Amit Shah was about to reach Tripura on Wednesday night.

Significantly, Amit Shah is going to participate in many programs in Tripura. BJP leaders said Shah is likely to first go to Dharmanagar in north Tripura, about 190 km from state capital Agartala, where he will flag off the first Rath Yatra. Later, he will visit Sabroom in South Tripura near the Bangladesh border to flag off the second Rath Yatra. After this the Union Home Minister will leave from Tripura. However, the reason for the change in the schedule of his arrival could not be immediately known.
Chief Minister Manik Saha along with Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Sushant Chowdhary visited Dharmanagar and Sabroom on Monday to take stock of the preparations for the party’s mega rally ahead of the state assembly elections. Significantly, assembly elections are to be held in Tripura in February. Party leaders said that several public meetings and rallies have been planned under the two Rath Yatras. BJP national president JP Nadda is likely to be present on January 12, the concluding day of the programme.
