Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the country’s budget (Budget 2023-24) on Wednesday (February 1). This was the last full budget of the second term of the Modi government. In this budget, the Finance Minister made special announcements for the middle class, women, youth, farmers and the elderly. Giving a big relief to the middle class, the Finance Minister decided not to impose any tax on income up to Rs 7 lakh.

The biggest thing in the budget speech of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was the change in income tax slab. He changed the slab after 8 years and announced tax exemption on income of 7 lakhs.

The Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, started to provide free ration to the poor during the Corona era, has been extended for one more year. The Finance Minister told that the central government is giving the entire amount of Rs 2 lakh crore to be spent on this.

The government announced to increase the Agricultural Credit Card (KCC) by 20 lakh crores. It was Rs 18.5 lakh crore last year. Apart from this, with the Digital Public Infrastructure for Agriculture, farmers will be able to get information from fertilizers, seeds to markets and startups.

To make women financially capable, the Finance Minister has announced the launch of Mahila Samman Bachat Patra Yojana. In this, women will get 7.5% interest annually on savings of Rs 2 lakh. This facility will be available in all banks.

The government has proposed to double the deposit limit of Senior Citizen Savings Scheme to Rs 30 lakh and Monthly Income Account Scheme to Rs 9 lakh. At the same time, the limit of the amount to be kept in the savings account will be increased from Rs 4.5 lakh to Rs 9 lakh.

A big announcement was made for the industries in the budget. There are more than 6 crore small and medium industries in the country. There are also more than 84 thousand startups. For these, the new credit guarantee scheme will be applicable from 1 April 2023. In this, credit up to Rs 2 lakh crore will be given to small and medium enterprises without guarantee.

About Rs 2.41 lakh crore has been allocated to the Railways this time in the budget. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has announced to run hydrogen train in the country from December 2023. It will be designed and manufactured in India. Hydrogen train will first run on heritage circuit like Kalka-Shimla. After this, there is a plan to expand it and run it in other places as well.

Ashwini Vaishnav also announced regarding the telecom sector. He said, ‘By February this year, 5G trials would have been done in 200 cities. A new lab has been announced for 5G technology. India will soon become an exporter of telecommunication.

Nirmala Sitharaman also made a big announcement regarding education. He said that 38,000 teachers and supporting staff would be recruited in the next 3 years for 740 Eklavya Model Residential Schools.

While presenting the budget, Nirmala Sitharaman talked about ending sickle cell anemia disease. During his speech, the Finance Minister said that a target has been set to free India from Sickle Cell Anemia Disease by 2047. A mission will be started for this. (with PTI input)
