New Delhi:

Congress has said that party President Sonia Gandhi will take a decision regarding the Chief Minister of Rajasthan in a day or two. After this, all eyes are on Rajasthan, although Ashok Gehlot said that position does not matter to him and he wants to strengthen the party. Earlier in the day, Gehlot extended his support to senior leader Mallikarjun Kharge for the post of Congress President and withdrew his candidature soon thereafter. Gehlot told reporters after becoming Kharge’s proponent, “For me, no post is important. Congress needs to be strengthened in the country and every Indian is saying so.

When asked whether he offered to resign from the post of Rajasthan Chief Minister during his meeting with Sonia Gandhi, Gehlot did not give a direct reply. He said, “I have held many positions for the last 50 years with the blessings of the Gandhi family. Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi gave me their blessings. For me the position doesn’t matter but what matters is how to strengthen the party. I will try my best for this.”

“If I leave any post now, it will be said that Ashok Gehlot is on the run when Congress is going through a crisis… I will do what the high command says,” he said.

Gehlot had met party president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday and apologized for not holding a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party in Jaipur and related developments and said that he will no longer contest for the post of president.

Amidst the political developments related to Rajasthan, Congress General Secretary K. C. Venugopal said that Sonia Gandhi will take a decision in the next day or two regarding the Chief Minister.
