Tripura Assembly Election 2023:

Assembly elections are to be held in India’s northeastern state of Tripura on 16 February. Voting is to be held on February 16 on a total of 60 assembly seats in the state. At the same time, the election results will come on 2 March. All the parties have thrown their might for the elections. In the election campaign, all the parties are sending their “strong faces” among the public.

Congress leader Birajit Sinha is considered one of the strong leaders in Tripura. State Congress President Sinha has been busy campaigning for the past several months. He has been active in politics since 1969. Starting his political career with student politics, Sinha has been an active member of the Congress since 1972.

He was appointed the President of Tripura State Youth Congress in 1978 and continued in this role till 1990. He has also served as a cabinet minister in Tripura from 1988 to 1993. He held several important roles in the Congress, including membership of the National Council of the Indian Youth Congress and the All India Congress Committee.

Born in the year 1952, Sinha is originally a resident of Tripura and has been an MLA for five times. He is survived by his wife Kanchan Sinha and two children Vishal Sinha and Rishiraj Sinha.

He was first elected as a member of the Tripura Legislative Assembly in 1988. He was a cabinet minister from 1988 to 1993. He was re-elected as an MLA in 1998 and was the Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Tripura Legislative Assembly from 1998 to 2000. He was the State Congress President and Congress Chief Ministerial candidate in the 2003 Assembly elections, where he was re-elected from his seat, but the party did not get a majority.

In the 2008 and 2013 assembly elections, he was re-elected to represent the Kailashahar constituency. He was appointed as the President of Congress in Tripura on 9 January 2015.

Birajit Sinha is associated with various social activities along with politics. He is the founder-chairman of the shelter. Aashray is a registered social voluntary organization working on the program areas of healthcare, welfare and national development.
